Just in time for Mother's Day and other gift-giving occasions, Sears introduces givetogether, a free, unique online gift-giving service, available at www.sears.com. With givetogether, families and friends can gather together in an easier, better way to give a great gift for any occasion, year round.
Sears givetogether offers many distinctive features on four easy-to-navigate tabs. In four steps, any social group can connect to share the pleasure of giving a gift to someone they all love - even though they may not be in the same place. Together, their giving capacity is greater, which enables the giving group to suggest a range of gifts and give a much larger and more aspirational gift than could be given individually.
First, the organizer or the recipient selects from any product or service offered by Sears and creates a group gift goal. Second, they send a friendly e-mail to invite contributors, such as family and friends, to participate. Sears givetogether allows participants to contribute at whatever level they choose via credit card, eliminating the hassle of collecting money from everyone or mailing checks or cash. There are no hidden costs or service fees.
Third, the group can track progress toward the goal online, adding to the excitement of seeing when the goal is achieved.
Finally, when the goal is met, the originator of the givetogether account can elect to give a Sears eGift Card to the recipient via e-mail or in person, who can redeem the eGift Card online, or in-store, for the actual gift.
"Our customers have told us it is especially important now to demonstrate their thoughtfulness on special occasions to the people they care about, and they are looking for new ways to delight and surprise them," said Richard Gerstein, senior vice president -Marketing for Sears Holdings. "To that end, Sears is redefining how people are giving gifts with givetogether. No other retailer has such a unique combination of multi-channel assets and capabilities, like givetogether, that makes gift giving so easy and fun."
Givetogether's group gift-giving concept connects gift-givers and recipients with access to Sears' wide range of products and shopping options, not just for Mother's Day but for other gift occasions, such as Father's Day, graduations, weddings, baby showers and even back-to-college. Since the vast merchandise selection at Sears is right at their fingertips, they're able to think out-of-the-gift-box for just about anything the recipient wants or needs without worrying about how to ship or wrap it. From Kenmore appliances and Craftsman tools to brand-name home electronics or home furnishings and the latest fashions, givetogether makes it easy to organize, buy and give a gift.
"We created givetogether because we strongly believe today's American family remains optimistic and is looking to deliver that ultimate gift for their loved ones, near and far," said Bill Kiss, Sears' divisional vice president of marketing, planning and program development. "Giving gifts is an important part of American life that becomes a little more challenging when loved ones are geographically dispersed. We want to deliver a pleasurable experience for the gift givers, one that leverages a sense of family or community and which ultimately thrills the recipient. That's all part of the givetogether experience."
Sears Holdings' plans for givetogether, he added, include the expansion to include home fashions, apparel and other products from Kmart.
