Sears Helps Texas Residents Access Up to $240 in Rebates on ENERGY STAR®-Qualified Appliances

The Sears Blue Appliance Crew™ is helping Texas residents access the $23,341,000 in rebates available for ENERGY STAR®-qualified appliances from April 16 through April 25 as part of the state's "Cash for Appliances" rebate program. As the 2010 ENERGY STAR Retail Partner of the Year, Sears has revamped its Web site, Sears.com/energystar to include even more tools to help Americans learn about ENERGY STAR, search for rebates and credits, find the right appliance and dispose of the old one properly, and take small steps to make a big difference. In an effort to help Texas residents better manage the rebate process, the Sears site also includes an interactive map, energy savings rebate calculator and information about ENERGY STAR products that qualify for the state rebates so customers can quickly and easily identify their favorite brands and models that are available for in-store purchase.

"This rebate money will go quickly, so we encourage our customers in Texas to take advantage of the stimulus plan as early as possible to ensure access to the state funds."

Beginning on Wednesday, April 7, Texas residents will have an opportunity to reserve an appliance rebate by calling a toll-free number or registering online; Sears will also help residents reserve their appliances at local stores or access the Texas reservation system through Sears.com/energystar. After the reserved rebates are awarded, consumers may continue to sign up for a waiting list to receive remaining rebates on a first-come-first-served basis. The mail-in rebates will only apply to eligible appliances purchased between April 16 and April 25, 2010.

Under the U.S. Department of Energy-approved appliance rebate plan for Texas, residents purchasing ENERGY STAR-qualified appliances are eligible for rebates from $45 to $240(I). Texas residents must purchase new, ENERGY STAR-qualified appliances from a participating retailer in the state, such as Sears, and will be limited to two appliance rebates and two recycling rebates per household. Furthermore, in Texas, additional savings will be available for customers who recycle their old appliances. The state's appliance rebates include the following, available at Sears:

  --  $45 for room air conditioners (additional $75 with documented
      recycling)
  --  $110 - $140 for dishwashers (additional $75 with documented recycling)
  --  $150 - $180 for clothes washers (additional $75 with documented
      recycling)
  --  $180 for freezers (additional $75 with documented recycling)
  --  $240 for refrigerators (additional $75 with documented recycling)

Texas residents are also eligible for additional rebates for energy-efficient, whole house heating and cooling systems including central air conditioners, air source heat pumps and hot water heaters. Through the RAD(II) program, the Sears Home Delivery Haul Away Service provides removal of one old, inefficient appliance for each new appliance purchased and delivered. Once the old appliance is removed, Sears and its partners ensure that the disposal process takes place in an environmentally friendly manner to avoid the discarding of appliances in landfills. Many of the components of the old appliance are then recycled.

  --  Provide information about which appliances qualify for state rebates
      in store and online at Sears.com/energystar
  --  Help shoppers find rebates - searching by product category and
      customer's zip code
  --  Provide customers with recycling documentation required in order to
      receive larger rebates (an additional $75 in rebates for recycling old
      appliances)
  --  Remove customers' old appliances and dispose of them in a responsible
      manner through the Sears RAD program
