LATINA Style Magazine, a national magazine for the professional Hispanic working woman, has named Sears to the LATINA Style 50 - 2001, its annual national listing of the top 50 companies providing the best professional opportunities for Latinas. The result of researching more than 600 of the most respected corporations in the U.S., the LATINA Style 50 is the only national effort to evaluate corporate America's responsiveness to the needs and aspirations of the more than 5 million Hispanic women working in the U.S.
"Sears works diligently to offer all of its associates a challenging and rewarding work environment with benefits and resources that are meaningful to them both professionally and personally," said Greg Lee, vice president of Human Resources at Sears. "Making the LATINA Style 50 list shows our progress in creating a diverse, high performance team but also motivates us to continue listening to our associates and finding ways to enhance our position as the employer of choice."
Companies responding to LATINA Style's survey were evaluated based on the issues identified by LATINA Style's readers as the most important to them in the workplace. The principal areas of evaluation were: number of Latina executives, mentoring programs, Latinas on the board of directors, educational opportunities, dependent/child care support, leave for childbirth, alternative work policies, benefits, women's issues, and Hispanic relations. LATINA Style also conducted confidential interviews with Latinas throughout corporate America to gain personal insights into the companies being considered.
"We have gone to great lengths to research and evaluate these companies," said Anna Maria Arias, editor and publisher of LATINA Style Magazine, the only national 100 percent Latina-owned publication on the market. "We have a duty to keep Hispanic working women informed of corporate America's best employment practices. Latinas can be confident that the LATINA Style 50 - 2001 represents the best that corporate America has to offer the Latina working woman."
The companies will be recognized at an awards ceremony to take place in Washington, D.C. during Hispanic Heritage Month this fall.
