BlueLight.com, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM), today announced it has raised more than $230,000 to support relief efforts for those touched by the country's recent tragedy. The money was raised through BlueLight.com's "Standing By America" campaign, in which all proceeds from the sale of American flag merchandise on the site were donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
In response to the devastating events of September 11, BlueLight.com made a special purchase of American flags and American flag T-shirts, not typically available on the site, and began selling them Friday, September 14. Consumer response was overwhelming. The supply of products was exhausted in a week, with nearly 17,000 American flags and 12,000 T-shirts sold.
"BlueLight.com's valued customers have shown, without a doubt, that they are standing by America and those affected by this horrific tragedy," said Randy Allen, chairman of the board, BlueLight.com.
