Sears Names Albuquerque Native Kori Taylor Sears National Community Hero

Taylor Featured In 53 Million Sears Sunday Circulars

Sears, Roebuck and Co. has named Albuquerque native Kori Taylor its Sears Community Hero and has featured Taylor in 53 million Sears Sunday circulars on September 30. Taylor, who has worked for Sears for the last six years in the Home Appliances department at the Albuquerque Sears Store at Coronado Center, is being honored for contributing more than 40 hours each month to helping people in her community and making it a better place to live. Each month, she puts on her walking shoes and heads to Manzano and Lake Heron State Parks to make sure it is clean and well maintained for everyone to enjoy. A mother of one daughter and grandmother of two girls, Taylor also dedicates time to United Blood Services, the Boy Scouts and her local church. In addition to her career at Sears and her community service, Taylor is a part-time student studying accounting at TVI College.

The Sears Community Hero program was launched in June 2001 to honor Sears associates and retirees who have a positive impact on their communities and/or youth through volunteerism and community involvement. In addition to being featured in Sears Sunday circulars, the company makes a contribution to the Hero's nonprofit organization of choice. Taylor has earmarked her donation for the Rio Grande Nature Center.

"My time is the greatest gift I can give because I put my all into whatever I do," said Taylor. "I am proud to work for a company like Sears that shares my passion for helping others and my commitment to community involvement. Sears understands the importance of giving back to our communities through volunteerism."

Each month, the Sears Community Hero program recognizes one of nearly 300,000 Sears associates and 140,000 retirees for outstanding dedication to the community and/or youth.

The Sears Community Hero program is part of Sears partnership with America's Promise and the Points of Light Foundation. Working on the local level through the Volunteer Center National Network and Communities of Promise, these organizations partner with Sears business units nationwide to engage Sears associates, their families, customers, vendors and retirees in volunteer initiatives that support local youth and their communities. In 2000, Sears expanded its philanthropic tradition through its pledge of one million volunteer hours by the end of 2002. Sears volunteers have logged nearly 600,000 hours.
