Kmart Kicks-Off National 'Class Acts' Contest to Honor Individuals Making a Difference in Schools

Everybody has a hero. Inspired by true stories of individuals going above and beyond for the benefit of their local schools, Kmart kicks-off the Kmart "Class Acts" contest to recognize everyday heroes among us. Through Class Acts, Kmart will acknowledge kids, teachers, coaches -- really anyone who inspires positive change in schools across the nation. The contest encourages customers to nominate their personal heroes, and votes can be cast by visiting the company Website at http://www.kmart.com/ .

To recognize those fostering improvements in schools through their own acts of courage, kindness or support, ten grand prize Class Acts contest winners will have the chance to receive:

  * VIP trip for two to New York City.
  * $2,500 contribution donated to the winner's school of choice.
  * $2,500 scholarship savings bond to the winner.
  * The opportunity to appear in Kmart's national back-to-school
advertising campaign, leading into the 2005-2006 school year.
  * A complete back-to-school wardrobe and school supplies courtesy of
     Kmart.

The contest seeks out a range of individuals making an inspiring imprint on education, from students, faculty and coaches to guidance counselors and custodians, or anyone outside the school walls who have likewise made a notable contribution to education in their community. Adults and kids over 13 years of age can submit nominees they feel exemplify a true "Class Act." Entrance into the contest includes filling out a quick entry form, submitting a 150-word description of the Class Act nominee and attaching a recent photo of his or her nominee.

"Class Acts was born from an idea to recognize the countless positive influencers who too often go unnoticed and to extend Kmart's role further into the community for the good of greater education," said Aylwin Lewis, President and Chief Executive Officer of Kmart. "This contest is a creative way to recognize inspiring achievement and we are excited about the enthusiasm this will generate in schools across the country."

Nominees for Class Acts should be 7 years of age or older, one person per entry form. Nominations must be postmarked by April 16, 2005 to be considered and winners will be announced on or about May 4, 2005.
