Sears Adds Appliances to Hardware Stores in Seven States
27 Stores Bring Top Appliance Brands Closer to Customers
On Sunday, Sears, Roebuck and Co. will celebrate the opening of appliance departments and the addition of the nation's top appliance brands in 27 Sears Hardware stores in seven states. Sears now sells appliances in 115 Appliances and Hardware stores nationwide.
During grand opening week, consumers can enter a drawing for a chance to win over $5,000 in prizes: the grand prize, $1,100 Whirlpool laundry package, includes a washer, dryer and year's supply of detergent; first prize, $1,000 Kenmore kitchen package, includes a dishwasher, refrigerator and gas range; second prize, $1,000 Sears gift card; and third prize, $500 Sears gift card (four winners). The sweepstakes* runs from April 17 to April 24, 2005.
Sears Appliances and Hardware stores sell products in four core businesses: Appliances, Lawn and Garden, Paint and Tools, in addition to a robust Hardware offering. Consumers can select from up to 260 appliance models, including up to 50 models that can be bought and taken home the same day.
Major appliances sold at the stores include: Countertop microwaves, over-the-range microwaves, ranges, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, washers and dryers. Sears also has increased its offering of Energy Star® qualified appliances and is displaying appliances by brand in a "good," "better," "best" floor layout in the stores.
The addition of appliances is not the only change at these 27 stores.
Other changes include:
-- Permanent displays of patio furniture and grills;
-- A new convenient floor layout which improves product visibility and
enhanced lighting levels; and
-- A new assortment of hardware merchandise for the "do-it-yourselfer".
"Sears is the leading retailer of appliances with double the market share of our closest competitor. This format gives us the ability to extend our great appliance offering in a new way, right in our customers' neighborhoods," said Mark Flowers, vice president and general merchandise manager of Sears Hardware.
Only Sears sells the top six appliance brands, including: Amana, Frigidaire, G.E., Maytag, Whirlpool and the nation's leading appliance brand -- Kenmore and Kenmore Elite.
