All I Want for Christmas Is ...

Sears Survey Reveals the Biggest Holiday Wishes of the Year

When did you stop wishing for a pony? When do we start viewing the holiday season as stressful instead of magical? The recent "Wish Big" survey from Sears revealed that while Americans used to wish for snow on Christmas morning (20 percent) and to wake up to a room full of toys (23 percent), we now hope for a no-stress holiday season (32 percent) or weight loss (13 percent).

This year, take time to sit down and create a personal holiday wish list -- one that includes ideas of what you "need" and what you really "want." Stumped? According to the survey, some of the more popular holiday wishes, include:

-- Women are more likely to long for big vacations, new wardrobes and
     jewelry. Gift ideas include:
       * Red Lands' End Lighthouse luggage and new pair of sunglasses
       * Covington cashmere sweater
       * 1/4 cttw diamond hoop earrings; sapphire, ruby or emerald bangle
         bracelet

-- Those who are married desire to wake up to a kitchen full of new
kitchen appliances, cabinets and countertops (a kitchen remodel). Gift
     ideas include:
       * Kenmore Elite Trio bottom freezer refrigerator
       * Kenmore Elite 41-bottle wine cellar

-- Men tend to hope for a big screen/plasma screen TV and a new car.
     Gift ideas include:
       * Sony 50 inch projection HDTV; Hitachi 42 inch Plasma HDTV
       * Create a car kit with items such as "new car" scented air
fresheners, ice scrapers, and Turtle Wax car cleaning gift pack

-- Those age 18-24 hope to find wedding proposals and new cars under the
     tree. Gift ideas include:
       * 1 cttw diamond solitaire ring
       * Toy replica of their favorite/dream car

-- Other items that generated interest include a fully stocked garage
workshop and an iPod. Gift ideas include:
       * Craftsman Cordless Combo Kit with RA Drill; Craftsman 7 drawer
         homeowner chest with Take-away drawer
       * Apple iPod and/or accessories such as the Bose SoundDock

  Wish and Tell

Once the list is created, don't forget to share it with family and friends -- it could relieve some of their holiday stress. In fact, research shows that the season's most stressful activities include visiting crowded shopping centers (32 percent) and finding unique gifts for everyone (17 percent). By sharing wishes early and often, loved ones will be able to avoid wandering around the stores looking for that perfect gift and, ultimately, they will be confident in their final selections.

Sears also will help relieve stress this holiday season by providing the following shopping conveniences:

-- Extended store hours starting November 19
  -- 24-hour shopping on sears.com and landsend.com
  -- Personalized gift cards
